Visitors to Uganda, as well as safari-seekers, should consider a quick day or weekend trip across the border to Rwanda. It is one of the smallest countries on the African mainland, and thus lends itself to a wonderfully succinct, short trip. Those travelling to Uganda for gorilla trekking should consider stopping in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, and the pristine Virungas rainforest. Travelling to Nyungwe Forest National Park is a fantastic place to visit chimpanzees and birds, and Akagera National Park offers big game viewing in a diverse savannah setting.
A trip to Rwanda combines well with other East African destinations, such as Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. However, the city’s green, rolling hills offer a distinct difference from the densely forested safari treks in Uganda. If you have the time, I highly recommend taking a trip to this small but beautiful country.
