Fort Portal situated
at an elevation of about 5,000 feet (1,500 metres) on the edge of
Uganda’s Kibale equatorial rainforest is an enchanting land full of
lakes, grasslands, marshes and forests on the lower slopes of the
Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda. It is the seat of both
Kabarole District and Toro Kingdom.

Here you can see game
parks, go see the Rwenzori Mountains also known as Mountains of the
Moon. You can take Gorilla treks. You can also pay about $5 to have
a man take you on a "Monkey Walk' where you can go in the jungle and
see Chimpanzee in their natural habitat just 'hanging' around. It is
a small enough town to walk around and not get lost. There are great
places to buy souvenirs of locally made baskets, mats, instruments
and also local coffee and teas.

If you want to spend
few days in Fort Portal and visit the nearby
Kibale Forest we recommend
